HPI puts price tag on classic 007 vehicles

Following the news that Aston Martin is to recreate James Bond’s iconic DB5 car, made famous in Goldfinger, automotive data experts HPI has compiled a list of how much some of 007’s classic cars would set you back, if the £2.75m (plus taxes) asking price is out of your range.

Aston Martin will produce 25 of the cars complete with revolving number plates. They will be built in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire.

Motoring expert Clive Wilson* of HPI has crunched the numbers to put a price tag on some of Bond’s most memorable motors from 25 movies over a lifespan of more than 55 years.

Lotus Esprit S1 from The Spy Who Loved Me. Clive says: “£75-100k but considerably more if you want one of the six originals made for the film then you could be talking seven figures in today’s money! One of the original submarine Lotus Esprit’s actually used in the film was restored and put on sale for $1million dollars.”

Aston Martin V8 Vantage from The Living Daylights. Clive says: “Expect to pay anywhere between £150-£800k depending on condition.”

Mercury Cougar XR7 from On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Clive states: “One of the more reasonable purchases and a snip at £15-£40k compared to the DB5.”

BMW Z8 from The World Is Not Enough: Clive says: “LHD only is likely to set you back somewhere between £180-£350k.”

Ford Mustang Mach 1 as seen in Diamonds Are Forever. Clive says: “Prepare to part with £50k+ if it’s a Mustang you’re after.”

BMW 750iL as seen in Tomorrow Never Dies. Clive says: “Undoubtedly the bargain buy in this group. You can be 007 for between £6- £12k.”

Alfa Romeo GTV6 from Octopussy. Clive says: “Typically varies wildly in price ranging from between £4k and £30k but it’s very hard to find a good one.”

Chevrolet Impala Convertible from Live and Let Die. Clive says: “Very hard to get hold of and not one single model for sale in the UK currently.”

Toyota 2000 GT from You Only Live Twice. Clive says: “Again quite rare in the UK with none for sale at present but a recent sale in Arizona realised £665000.”
